Please refer to the letter to Senator John
Marty written on March 1, 2000 and to the accompanying communications with the
neighborhood. Mn/DOT has limited funds for noise mitigation measures and our first
priority is in the areas that do not have noise barriers. This direction is from the State
Legislature and Mn/DOT will follow this course of action. Mn/DOT will continue to do
noise monitoring in this area and will continue all normal maintenance operations with
the pavement on this section of roadway.
I realize this may not be the answer you wanted, but Mn/DOT has to be prudent in the
use of funds for noise mitigation measures and comply with the Legisiature's direction. I
hope this answers your questions. If you have any further questions, please contact
James Hansen of my staff at 65 1-582-1 392. Thank you again for your letter and
concerns.
. enen, P.E.
Division Transportation Plar,ning Engineer
Attachments: March 1, 2000 letter to Senator John Marty
September 19, 1997 and October 28, 1991 letters to Bob Morgan
Federal Noise Abatement Criteria
Minnesota Highway Noise Abatement Study (February, 1997)
Cc: Commissioner Elwyn Tinklenberg
Tim Worke — Legislative Liason Office
John Kyslyczyn - Mayor
An equal opportunityemployer
