�i Request for Council Action Date: 07/10/00 Item Number: E-�, Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section Item Description: ';�_��;� � Organizational Business Parks and Recreation Commission Vacancy Resolution No. 9372, adopted by the City Council on January 30, 1997, revised the policy and procedures for appointments to advisory commissions. Included in the Procedure Statement are the guidelines to fill a vacancy on the commission due to resignation, death, moving from the City, removal from office, ineligibility for reappointment, etc. Background Anthony McGinnity has resigned from the Parks and Recreation Commission because he moved to Arden Hills. The vacancy for his term expiring March 3 1, 2001, may now be filled in accordance with the council's policy on advisory commission appointments. Policy Objective The intent of the Advisory Commission Appointment Policy as outlined in Resolution No. 9372, is to establish a fair and open notification and selection process which encourages all Roseville residents to apply for appointment. The procedures in the Resolution include guidelines for advertising vacancies, interviewing applicants and City Council appointment of the selected candidate. Effort is made to schedule the applicant interviews on the same date as a scheduled City Council meeting to avoid committing the Council to additional evenings for meetings Staff Recommendation It is recommended the application deadline be established for Wednesday, August 3, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. and to establish Monday, August 21, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. for a Special City Council Work Session for the purpose of interviewing commission applicants. Council Action Motion establishing Wednesday, August 3, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. as the deadline for receiving applications for the vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission and establishing a Special City Council Work Session for August 21, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. for the purpose of interviewing commission applicants.
