Brad Scheib
MnAPA Distinguished Leadership Award
Page 3
it has become the leader in subregional planning in the state and beyond. Many involved
will point to Dennis as the originator of this group, from the formation of the idea to the
advancement to its non-profit status, and now its evolution to the best planning
information, data and ability for creative solutions among and between communities.
Dennis has contributed greatly to advancing the state of sub-regional planning, and has
provided a new model for planning for all of us.
Dennis Welsch is truly an outstanding leader, and his presence in the field of planning
has made a difference to the profession, to the communities and to the individuals he has
worked with. He is an unsung hero in our field of planning. He is creative, always goes
the extra mile, and willing to mentor even those young planners he does not know. He
leads by example, and is a doer. He accomplishes much regularly and has contributed
much to the cities he has worked "with" as well as advancing the state of planning in the
region. -ie is gracious, kind, thoughtful, caring, honest, and a good friend to many. Most
of all, he espouses a philosophy that keeps the community and its people at heart.
I hope you can carefully consider bestowing this award on Dennis. It would be an honor
for him and it would be an honor to those of us who have worked with him.
Sincerest Regards,
Meg J. Mcionigal, AICP, Senior Planner
