Welsch for the Distinguished Leadership .-ltivard
from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association (1n.-P.a).
It is with great pride that I provide a letter of support for Dennis Welsch. In my letter. Pd
like to spend a little time highlighting his leadership successes and Pd also like to reflect
on how Dennis' leadership skills have influenced my career as a professional Planner.
I tirst heard about Dennis when I was a planning student at fankato State t1niersit}.
Dr. Tony Filipovich, one of my professors, spoke of creative planning innovations and
use of computers in the field of planning. Computers were just beginning to be used for
word processing, spreadsheets, etc., but few people were running pro-forma analysis and
performing statistical modeling at the time. After hearing so much about
him in school, I was very honored to know that I had been hired to work with him. There
were no disappointments. From the start, I sensed that Dennis had a management style
that would allow me to flourish. He provided leadership and support, while giving room
to grow on my own.
Dennis thrives on providing huge successes for his organization, while allowing his staff
to have ownership in those successes. In White Bear Lake, I watched Dennis interact
