Welsch from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association (MnAPA).
In 1991, I was fortunate to be hired as the Community Development Intern for the City
of Apple Valley. Dennis was the Community Development Director and had taken an
active role in developing a comprehensive internship program for the City of Apple
Valley. My internship afforded me the opportunity to understand first hand the role of
planning in all aspects of local government, from physical construction to emergency
management. After completing my internship, Dennis encouraged me to pursue
planning as a career. I have worked in the planning field for 8 years and words can not
express my true appreciation for someone who understands and supports planning and
its practitioners the way Dennis does, If it had not been for the profound impact that
Dennis had on me, I may not be in the planning profession today.
I support the nomination of Dennis Welsch for this award because he is an outstanding
motivator and mentor in the field of planning. He has encouraged me and many others
to broadened ourselves as planners and as people. I believe Dennis is truly an
outstanding leader, and his presence in the field of planning has made a significant
difference to the profession, and to the communities and the individuals he has worked
with.
Sincerely,
,, , `
. .
Chelle A.
