Department Approval <br />Item Description: <br />����� <br />Request for Council Action <br />Manager Approval <br />'�L�A � <br />Date: 10.23.00 <br />Item Number: <br />Agenda Section <br />Organizational Business <br />Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute the Transition Plan <br />City Manager, Steve Sarkozy has resigned from his position effective Friday November 3, 2000. On October <br />16, 2000 at the Work Session, the City Council requested that the City Manager submit items for formal action <br />pertaining to the transition, including: <br />City Manager Executive Search Firms and Process Proposal; <br />Acting City Manager Appointment; <br />Transition Roles and Responsibilities; and, <br />Employee agreement issues. <br />The City Council also requested specific recommendations from the City Manager and staff on each issue. <br />I. Citv Mana�er Executive Search Firms and Process Pronosal Back�round <br />Traditionally, the City of Roseville has utilized firms that specialize in executive searches to fill <br />various administrative vacancies. It is strongly recommended that the City Council utilize the services <br />of one of the following firms and to begin the process immediately so as to reduce the time of <br />transition to a new administration. <br />As mentioned, the City of Roseville has utilized the services of outside executive search firms. <br />Specifically, the following firms have been engaged and are more aware of Roseville and our needs. <br />1996 - Police Chief Search - The Oldani Group <br />Jerry Oldani, (the iirms principal) handled the Police Chief search upon the retirement <br />of Jim Zelinsky . Paul Wood was hired and continues to serve as Roseville's Chief. <br />1989 - City Manager Search — The Brimeyer Group <br />Jim Brimeyer (the firm's principal) handled the City Manager search upon the <br />termination of Jim Andre. Mr. Brimeyer is also known to the City Council as he <br />facilitated the Council Team Building sessions in early 2000. <br />The benefit of utilizing such firms include: <br />� Ensure broad-based national search to attract candidate with the best fit; <br />� Capitalize on executive search firm's recruitment and selection structure as confirmed <br />by local officials; <br />� Secure candidates with a minimum two-year commitment that iirm's guarantee; <br />� Efficient use of municipal funds to secure a candidate with appropriate qualifications <br />and experience; and, <br />Hire for the position within a specific timeframe and remain on track. <br />
