REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 10/23/00 <br />ITEM NO: F-1 <br />t Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />�j Reports/Recommendations <br />Item Description: Acceptance of Bids for Dale Street Soccer Fields Renovation <br />BACKGROUND <br />The 2000 PIP includes the renovation of the two soccer fields in Central Park. At the <br />September 11, 2000 City Council meeting, the Council rejected bids for the project because <br />they were significantly over the budget and the design estimate. Subsequently, staff <br />working with BRA and contractors have developed design/build specifications for the <br />project, which included: <br />! settin the bid amount of $100,000 <br />� requirinq contractors to submit details of work that will be done for the specified amount <br />of monev. <br />Minimum Expectations were: <br />blendinq ��^^��^��^^ ^f existing soils <br />. partial replacement with amended and blended soils <br />. installation of drain tile system <br />. seeding and restoration <br />. <br />. Note: irrigation is planned for the site under a separate contract. <br />For the initial bid, only one response was received in the amount of $256,359.50. The <br />original design estimate and budget for the project was $90,000. Staying within the overall <br />parameters of the PIP budget, staff has adjusted the budget to $100,000 for this part of the <br />project. <br />Using the design/build approach, the City received bids from: <br />. Glen Rhebein Excavating, Inc., <br />. Forest Lake Contracting <br />. Nadeau Utilities (bid forms with no submittals received) <br />Following the receipt of bids, BRA reviewed the bids on the advertised stipulations and has <br />recommended the bid of Forest Lake Utilities for these reasons: SEE ATTACHED SHEET <br />Staff is recommending that the new bid of Forest Lake Contracting of $100,000 be <br />accepted. <br />1 <br />
