REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 11/27/00 <br />ITEM NO.: c-1 0 <br />Department ApprovaL• Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />• �( <br />� <br />Item Description: Acceptance of grant from the Minnesota Safety Council for the Acorn <br />Park/County Road C pathway and crosswalk <br />Background: At the May 15, 2000 City Council Work Session meeting, the Council discussed <br />pedestrian safety across County Road C in the vicinity of Acorn Park. A copy of the City <br />Council Work Session memo is attached. Based on the discussion at this meeting, staff <br />submitted a grant proposal to the Minnesota Safety Council to help fund a new pathway along the <br />north side of County Road C between Western Avenue and Rice Street. A copy of the grant <br />proposal is attached. <br />The Minnesota Safety Council has approved Roseville's grant proposal. The grant is for <br />$20,000. The total project is estimated to cost $50,130. In accordance with City policy, City <br />Council approval is needed to accept the $20,000 Minnesota Safety Council grant. <br />If this grant is accepted, preliminary plans will be prepared and reviewed with the neighborhood. <br />A public hearing to consider formal City Council approval and financing of the proj ect would be <br />held in February 2001. Construction would occur in the summer of 2001. <br />Financial implications: The total cost of this project is estimated to be $50,130. $20,000 is to <br />be funded with the Minnesota Safety Council grant. The remaining $30,130 is yet unfunded. If <br />this grant is accepted by the City Council, additional funding sources will be identified by the <br />time of a public hearing -- likely in February 2001. Potential sources include an allocation from <br />the 2001 Contingency Fund or other grant sources. <br />RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />Motion accepting the $20,000 grant from the Minnesota Safety Council for the Acorn <br />Park/County Road C Pathway and Crosswalk proj ect. <br />Prepared by: Karl Keel <br />
