Sydney Otson
, ' n ° ( 8th Grade
 1n Roseville Area Middie Scho
    Mr. Jeff Bibeau
Abraham Lincoln otce said "Thae who denv fredam ta others deserve i Hororadte Mentior
themseices." Many eple rriay are with tlat statement but the Univcrsal I3eciaration of
Hunan Rights does not. Human rihts ar th rights that ar ranted to every human bein
regardless of their personality, rac, sx, ori,in, thouhts, and social group, If everyane foliowed
the sirnple rule "be kind" there wauId b no need fr ihese dacuments. AIas rtany do not follow
that one paramtr and e ned written agrement. Th righis that personally stand out to me
are, .rticl 2, right to eyuality; Article 1 I, Rilt ta be cansidred innocent untiI proven gailty;
and Article 26, Right to Education. Vdithout human rights the world woutd be chaotic, and if we
decrease the number af violations we ean work towards a perf'ect life_
Discrimination is a harrible thin; no one shouid be subjected to that treatrnent. I think
that article 2, freedom fram discrimination is vital to a peaceful existenee. I've been taught to
respect others consistntly thrau;hatt my schoolin, but my 6'' grade teacher Mr. Lirehan stood
out to rne. Always in schaal teachers are supposed to instili the trait of kindness in students. Mr,
Linehan went above and beyond that standard. We valuntarily parEicipated in a larning activity
where we gat se what discriminatian feels like. He showed us how in a schoal situation African
Anericans used to be victimied. This lesson deeply toed me and it showed how badly
discrimiraiian can hurt. One example of recert discrimiration was last October. In Jordan
damestic women mirant wcrkers were not ;ttin paid sannc or alI of their wages, and in some
cases for years. On top nf thase violatians many women wer alsa abused and ield captive at
employer's touses. Tday's tudies show that to evry dollar a man earns a woan only makes
77 cents. At the currcnt rat af women wage incrase in 205 ] rren and worrer will finally be
earning th same mount of money for the same work. There are many others types of
