days to be repaired: the roadbed had to be dg up; a propane
heater run for two day to thaw the pipe so it wouidn't rupture
further; the pipe replaeed and wrapped at the break; ard the road
re--cloed: a! at a cost v $4,000, of whtch I had to pay ha{f up
front, and the remainder at eompletion. The repair service
thoughtfu!!y took picures and documented what they ound when
they opened the grornd, should you b interested.
(Ercfosure3}
> n addition, it cost me @$500 in damage to personal items
and for cleanup of my basement. I bought a shop--vacuum so I
could contain and dispose of said sewer backup matter since the
drain was frozen - that was fun. I couldn't use my toiets; run my
dish-- or clathes-washers; or take a shower or bath for those three
days. Ised the acilities at the Burger King on Rice and
Larpenteur, and a friend in St. Paul availed me of the use of her
bathroom and shower. This all took place over Valentine's Day
2007; that was fun too.
Attached are detaifs af these out-of-pocket expenses, which
wer incurred between Iate-Oetober Z006 and mid-February 2407.
Why did it tak me so long to submit a!! of these, you asfc? Well the
firs one in fall of 2006 wasn't too bad; I just figured I'd eat it. The
came the res, E did submit the bii for the sewer rpair last sping,
(rot including the property loss or basement cleanup), to the
Ramsey Couny Water District, as advised by someone in your
office, was refused and by the nd o summer gave up. I was aiso
told that because o he now shallow ocation of the city sewer they
couldn"t guarantee it wouldn' happen aain hould the temperature
remain at sub-zero for any extended periods in the fuure.
(Eclosure4)
I then submtted a claim o my Irsurance company, but found
I didn`t have coverage for'frozen sewer lines'. Who knew tt hadn't
come up when I insured my home, I've added coverage to my
policy, just to be safe.
! now find myself holding a deb tnat I'm hoping the
CityCounty can in some way assist me with. I'm not a spendhrift;
I'm single, handicapped, wih a fxed income - nat a card care to
play often. Adding to the di(emma, my centrai air went out last
une, and bingo: anoher $3600. While that expense is totally m
responsibility, I felt t needed to be brought into the picture
bcause ! have Nlultiple Sclrosis, whicf requires that ! have air
canditioning in the summer, so it had o be replacd immediately.
