There is ihe feel of soft, mi[ky moonlight or� skin, the <br />vibrant hues af a dark sky, and the soft lu�l of tiny ��raves creeping �ap the ocean sand. <br />But there are greai monstrosities in this ���orld. There are the «rai[s af a mother ��fha cradles �er <br />bloodstained son ir� her arms, the f�ate that glares thro�gh scomed eyes, and the hopelessness of <br />the woman who feels her circ�amstances are �nchangeable. <br />in this world, «�e have a choice. We have a choice io embrace the beauty of the [ife around us, <br />and to bring love, faith, and �ope to others. We also have the choice to associate ourselves with <br />the pain and hate that roams the �vorld, desiring only to create a �vorld where our life can be most <br />comfortable... My goa] through this essay is to break down some ofthe hate barriers that ���e <br />comrrtonly see, and sho�v, through three eaperiences, how I have �earned ihat there is a different <br />�}�ay ta think and fee! than the common selfish mindset. <br />[ had an eye-openir�g experience a ye.ar or two ago, one t�at has affected my ]i% very <br />stronglyt, and �t�i11 follo��� �ne throughout rrsy entire ]ife. My church youth group departed from the <br />church ane night to the I��aomi Shelter, a refuge far women and children who need a place to stay. <br />We ���ere going to learn about homelessness and poverty in the t���in cities. Our job �vould be to <br />give the mothers a ni�;ht aff, and play with the kids. <br />] want to clarify that before this �articular ni�ht, 1�vas, I'l] admit, �•ather biased to�vards <br />home�ess people, or people with lo�+�-incorrte. Though 1 anz ashamed to say it, �vhat came to m�- <br />mind were dirty, ugly people who smoked and �vho didn't hav� a job because they �vere too lazy <br />to find ane. Looking back, my narrow-mindedness is rather sickening... ThaC was one reason wf�y <br />the homeless shelter ���as chosen for an activity that ni�ht. Not only to assist people, but aiso to <br />realize just w�at I did as 1 held tt�e ha«d of a pint-size, high-�oiced ]ittle girl while we crossed the <br />street to enter a gy€n for playtime; that �ve are al� people, and we all have value.
