��� <br />�-► <br />Cornmunity I)evelopment Department <br />. <br />1 <br />To: Pat Trudgeon, Community Develapment Director <br />From: Don Mur�son, Codes Caordinatar <br />Date: 05-20-2008 <br />Re: Update an Land Use Enforcement Cha�ges <br />Land Use Changes and Enhancements: <br />• New ordinances took effect May 13th (pub�ished): <br />o Mandatory fines, escalating fines. <br />s Criminal Attorney 3�as been noiified a council hearin� is no langer necessary far <br />the Cammunity Development Department to issue a court ci#ation. <br />Q Hired seasonal temporary inspector and just finished training: <br />o He wiil be per%rming Rick's roIe for next 3 weeks while Rick is on <br />medical lea.ve. <br />+ Have increased the numbers of complaint cases cotnpared to last year. <br />• Cases are staying closer to the scheduled follow-up timelines compared to Iast <br />year. <br />• Cases are not be�ng delayed to the slower winter season bu# are working through <br />the process with a number of them headed far council hearings/abatements, or for <br />court citations. <br />Pilot - Neighborhood Enhancement Program: <br />• Finalizing procedures, rales and areas of responsibili#y with staff <br />o Neighborhood Enhancement program is primarily being performed by the <br />seasonal inspector {Brian Coughlin) with `prablem case' assistance from <br />other staff. <br />o Staff wil] walk nigh�orhoods observing properties only from the right-of <br />way. <br />a Priority issues include: property maintenance such as: junk and debris in <br />yards; long grass; paint on homES, garages and sheds; inoperable vehicles, <br />brus� piles, cornrnercial equipment and vehicl�s in residential areas, etc. <br />� Staff is sending the initial informationa3 letter (along with a brochure of comrnon <br />cocie violations, available HRA programs and a Housing Resourse Center <br />brocl�ue} out at the end of the week/beginning of next: <br />o Will be sent to 400 properties each month for 4-5 months. <br />o lnspections wil] follow in 3-4 weeks. <br />• Carolyn Curti is placing an infarmational piece in the City newsletter to inform <br />residents about the program. <br />o Page 1 <br />
