On-road paths are a paved portion of the roadway that provides space for the use of light traff c. <br />(Exhibit X: City Pathway Map) <br />l) Bike Route: A shared right of way located on roadways designated with appropriate <br />signage to encourage bicycle use. (none in Roseville } <br />2) Bike Lane: A portion of the roadway that is designated by physical barrier or striping, <br />and pavement markings for the preferential or exclusive use of bicycles. <br />{none in Roseville) <br />3} Striped Shoulder: A portion of the edge of a paved road surface that is contiguous with the <br />road surface and separated by striping at least 4 feet wide. (Approximately <br />29.7 miles) <br />4) Shared lane: Low traffic roads that have no additional space provided for light traffic but <br />that can be shared between automobiles and light traffic because of low <br />traffic volumes. Shared lanes are not designated as pathways although they <br />do provide good access routes to other pathways. <br />Off-Road Pathways <br />While a community's streets and roadways typically provide the best means of accessing a variety of <br />destinations by bicycle, off-road pathways can enhance the primary transportation system. Pathways <br />that are separated from the motor vehicle traff c can be excellent transportation routes for <br />recreational cyclists and pedestrians, specifically young children, and in many instances, can provide <br />pathway users with linkages not available t.o motor vehicles. <br />1} Trail An off-road pathway that is generally 6-12 feet wide bituminous paths, a <br />majority of which are in parks. These pathways are multiuse. <br />(Approximately 32.51 miles) <br />2) Sidewalk Concrete sidewalks, usually within the road right. ofway, generally4-6 feet <br />wide and running parallel to the road, intended for use by pedestrians. <br />(Approximately 36.49 miles) <br />3) F©ot Path Wood chip trails, ag-Lime trails, and turf trails are not considered part of the <br />pathway network because they are exclusive to parks. This document is not <br />about park pathways. They are mentioned for inventory purposes only. <br />(Approximately 4.28 miles) <br />4} Other Boardwalks are not considered part of the pathway network because they <br />are exclusive to parks. (Approximately 1,2 miles) <br />Supplemental Facilities <br />Bicycle and pedestrian facilities include more than just the paths themselves.
