RICE STREET/HIGH~~'r~Y 36 INTERCHANGE ItiIPRO~'E~lIE?~~CS
Cor~~trat~~iE i~~ Ji`~g~rz~ r~~i~ ~~~1:~~~sit2~~
Construction of improvements on Rice Street will generally occur in three
phases, with construction of the east half of the new Rice Street bridge and
northbound lanes occurring in the first phase. During this phase, one lane of
traffic in each direction will be maintained on the west half of the existing
roadway. Phase two will begin with removal of the existing bridge and
includes construction of the southbound lanes and west half of the Rice Street
bridge. During the second phase, one Pane of traffic in each direction will be
maintained on the newly constructed east half of Rice Street.
The third phase will consist of construction of the new raised median with
traffic being maintained on the outside lanes of the new roadway. Highway
36 will continue to carry two lanes of traffic in each direction with only
periodic short term (non rush hour) or overnight lane closures. Access to and
from Highway 36 will be maintained on either existing or temporary ramp
alignments until the new ramps are ready for use, with limited disruption to
service.
~~
~~,~ti> ds ~~~ ~ro~~~:~ ~ei~a~ ~-~I~d,~.~~.~
The county is in the process of finalizing funding sources for the project,
which include grants from Federal Surface Transportation (STP) funds and
the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED);
Mn~DOT Local Interchange, Trunk Highway Turnback, Bridge, and
Cooperative Agreement funds; city funds; and property owner assessments.
Additional funding information will be available at the January 20th open
house.
\NNESp J
1
~. ~ ~ ~ ~ ' t ~._-- ~ ~ ~ ~ll~ ~ ~ _ _ i,'`,~ KimleyHom
l ~ o~Efl ~ ni'inf i ~ ~ ~ ",,, .,i l `' `. ~ ~ ~ ~ `~ ~°-~ t ~ ~~ =and Associates, lnc ~ --
° ~ ~~i6
~~'or rfl^~~~~ ____,
