GLWMO Meeting Minutes
February 23, 2006
Page 3
as detailed in the 2001 Plan. The Board will send a letter to the DNR indicating support
for Roseville's proposed improvements.
B-2 There was no correspondence sent since the last meeting.
C) Bills
C-1 There were no bills presented for consideration.
D) Other Business
D-1 Website Review Comments
RWMWD staff previously reviewed the GLWMO website and developed a list of
comments/suggestions for improvement. Cliff Aichinger reviewed the major items and
there was discussion with the Board Members. It was determined that Shoreview staff
would meet with Ms. Simba Blood of RWMWD to implement the suggestions.
D-2 2006 Demonstration Projects
Maloney introduced Tom Petersen and Ryan Johnson, Ramsey Conservation District,
who were there to participate in the discussion regarding potential shoreland restoration
projects for Lake Owasso. Based on the Lake Owasso report prepared for GLWMO last
year, staff was seeking opportunities to develop a shoreland restoration project on the
north end of the lake, on or near the Ramsey County property. A possible demonstration
project including a rain garden or bio-retention basin was discussed for the Wabasso
Lake public access/park area. Maloney indicated that he had been approached by
representatives of the Sierra Club who had indicated interest in participating in some
aspect of the project planning/delivery. Tom Petersen gave a description of the grant
program his agency has for native landscape restoration, and that they had been working
with private property owners along Lake Owasso. The Board discussed the potential of
partnering with Ramsey Conservation District in a grant program for abandoned
residential well-sealing activities similar to other area Watershed Districts. Maloney
indicated that future meetings would include updates on the progress/interest in these
2006 Demonstration Projects.
D-3 2005 Shoreview Aquatic Plant Management Activities
Maloney reviewed the reports on 2005 Shoreview Invasive Aquatic Plant Management
activities for Lake Owasso, which indicated a City cost participation of $1,836.25. This
information was provided as a follow-up on the Board's prior discussions about the intent
of Shoreview's Policy, and it was recognized that the City's participation was limited by
the policy to the treatment/eradication of Eurasian Milfoil or other invasives.
