TALK age 23 <br />i <br />i <br />t <br />The Department of Natural .Resources is <br />pleased to announce the completion of a <br />report which documents all of Minnesota's <br />state and local management programs, laws, <br />rules. regulations, and practices which <br />control nonpoint source pollution in the Lake <br />Superior watershed. <br />The project was begun last summer in an <br />effort to compare Minnesota's programs <br />against the Federal Section 6217 Nonpoint <br />Source Pollution Program. a new requirement <br />of the Coastal Resource Management <br />Program (CZM or CRM). Minnesota is <br />currently evaluating the benefits and <br />constraints of participating in this program. <br />The specific purpose of the NPS report is to <br />determine how closely Minnesota complies <br />with Section 6217 program requirements. <br />The report, titled. "Minnesota Nonpoint <br />Source Pollution Existing Controls and <br />Programs, Lake Superior Watershed", May <br />1995. documents the various strategies <br />Minnesota employs to control nonpoint <br />source pollution in the areas of agriculture. <br />forestry, urban/rural, marines & recreational <br />boating, hydromodification, and wetlands. <br />Technical assistance was provided by local <br />and state agency representatives in both <br />.report preparation and review of individual <br />chapters. <br /> <br />rrtrtl <br />Jim Berg joined the Well Sealing Program <br />on 4/5/95. <br />Dave Johnson transferred from the CZM <br />Program in Region 2 to St. Paul Permits on <br />4/19/95. <br />Chuck Revak takes Dave's place in Region 2 <br />effective 5/31/95. <br />Jeanne Matczynsk[ retired 5/2/95 after 30 <br />years with the State of Minnesota (17 of which <br />were with the DOW) -Good luck!!!. <br />Kathie Friedl took a mobility to BREM <br />through 9/18/95. <br />Carole Mason took Kathie's place for the <br />same time period. <br />a ~~ e s <br />The report has been forwarded to the <br />Office of Coastal Resource Management <br />(OCRM) and Environmental Protection <br />Agency (EPA) for federal evaluation and - <br />comment. In June. a joint meeting between <br />OCRM, EPA, and state agencies will take <br />place to present Minnesota's programs.
