Tra~~i~g css~~~ c e~tic Sys~c flcra~i~n ai~~c~ar~ca The Ylinnesota Extension Services of "the metro area are sponsoring a workshop, Septic System Opera- tion and tYlaintenance on Tuesday February 20, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Staff with environmental or homeowner inspection responsibilities will find this workshop useful in preventing water contamination from residential septic systems, especially those with an interest or responsibility to conduct environmental education. Attendees will receive a teaching script, a home owner's guide and publicity materials. The training session is designed to allow attendees to bring the information to their local communities through workshops consultations and printed materials. The instructor, Ken Olson, Sherburne County Extension Educator. helped develop the teaching ma- terials and has conducted. similar training sessions across the state. Workshop attendees have included:. water plan coordinators, planning and zoning off cers,. health and environmental department personnel, soil and water conservation district staff and elected and appointed officials from townships, cities and special. use districts. Some of the materials are for sale, but many are free or may be borrowed. The Dis `_=°°~ ~ ---- -~~=~-- trict recently determined that the Internet offered a vast amount of resources-that would be beneficial to our office and. made the arrangements to establish an Internet connection. The Internet will be useful to the District and to the public in several ways. It provides an additional means of communication with state and county agencies, the public, and business groups. Internet will allow us to access numerous databases around the world and to introduce and disseminate our educational tools. The Internet will also allow us to efficiently exchange large amounts of data with other agencies and to expand our research capabilities. We are currently planning to create a World Wide Web page to introduce our goals, missions, and services. Please write to us and ask how we can help you. It summarizes the expertise, research focus and community projects undertaken by faculty and also summarizes each organization's purpose, services and primary con- tact. The directory contains two indexes, one by expertise and research interest and the other by university departments to aid in matching specific needs with planning resources. No private planning consultants are included.
