You had used a bobcat to remove
the upland vegetation, but had gone into the water to try to remove some stumps at the shoreline.
As we discussed, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) pernuts are required for lakebed
alterations.
You agreed to install a silt fence around the disturfied area and maintain it until the area is established
with vegetation. Even though you only have aten-foot easement, you disturbed fifty feet of
shoreline. I am enclosing a brochure that descnbes the sand blanket requirements.
The City ofRosevdle does have a shoreland ordinance and you should check with them to make sure
they do not require permits for the grading and removal of vegetation.
We also discussed that there are benefits for the lake ecology, plus for discouraging goose use of
property, if an unmowed buffer is maintained next to the Lakeshore.
You agreed to restore the area in a timely fashion. The DNR will not be pursuing further action as
long as t<~:e restoration proceeds. IL~yeu have any fi,:rther questions, please contact me at 772- 7910.
Sincerely, C
~~~' v ~°
Molly ~Shodeen
Area Hydrologist
MCS/kl
c: City of Roseville, Dennis Welch
,~ata~ss Lake Water Management Organization
Conservation Officer Brad Johnson
DNR information: 51?-_y6-61~,.
