..Page 8 WATfR TALK - Spring/Summer 1996
...continued from page 6
DNR. This was one of the first General Permits
issued by the Corps in the United States, with the
objective of eliminating unnecessary regulatory
duplication and streamlining state and federal regula-
tory programs for the public..
On June 4, 1996, the Corps reissued GP-Ol
and expanded the scope of activities included in the
permit to include excavation projects now regulated.
by the Corps plus a number of projects that fell
outside of the categories of projects identified in the
original GP-O1. The new permit will reduce the
number of individual permit applications and proce-
dures the Corps would require of applicants whose
projects are regulated and approved under DNR
permit procedures.
The practical implications of this General
Permit include benefits to individual project appli-
cants, in that the GP-O1 procedures save applicants
the time and cost of having to go through separate
DNR and Corps permit application processes, and to
the DNR and Corps staff, in that duplication of
project reviews is significantly reduced for project
activities within Protected Waters.
•.®o•®•...o•...•®®•.os®.....•••^.•••.^•••^.•s^••...••..•••..
ae~ a a e9°
Richard K.
