Mr. Mark Maloney
October 15, 1996
Page 2
Potential 1997 GLWMO
Public Information Plan
Component Comment
Project WET This is a teacher training coordinated by the Mn/DNR. The
GLWMO could sponsor a teacher training workshop.
Workshop cost would be approximately $10 - $35 per
teacher fora 6-hour training session. Teacher gets graduate
credit. See attached information.
Catch Basin Stenciling Program Needs a coordinator and volunteers....potentially ateacher,
Scout troop, lake homeowner's association, etc. Costs are
dependant upon the intricacy of the stencil and the
associated leaflets. See attached information.
GLWMO "Homepage" Can be relatively inexpensive. The potential exists for
volunteer utilization. Could easily link with City's
homepage. Should get Board input and approval before
going "on-line".
Air Videos on Local Cable Mn/DNR and others have a video library. Additional
Channels efforts can be made to attempt to borrow tapes. Other tapes
are available for purchase for a range of costs. Many are
quite reasonably priced because they are underwritten by
public agencies.
Newsletter Roseville presently publishes a bi-monthly newsletter and
Shoreview publishes a quarterly newsletter. The
submission of articles by the GLWMO for inclusion in
these existing newsletters would be an efficient use of
resources.
Water Quality Fair This has been used in other watersheds with mixed results.
The idea is to hold an open house at a public area to
showcase various displays.
Shoreland Owners Information The University of Minnesota Extension Service in Chisago
County is presently working with Lakeshore owners to help
improve the quality of lakes. The emphasis of this program
is on the riparian owners and may not be consistent with the
overall target of the GLWMO.
