Mission Statement
A final version of the mission statement was adopted and will be printed on the Watershed
Partners brochure: "The Watershed Partners promote a public understanding that inspires people to act
to protect water quality in their watershed."
5. Media Messages
Met Council Environmental Services has approached the steering committee of the Watershed
Partners with the prospect of anon-competitive Twin Cities Water Quality Initiative Grant of 5200,000
for a joint effort between the Watershed Partners and a state agency group headed by BWSR. The
,;,purpose of the grant would be to reinforce water quality messages through the media.
Linda said that the non-competitive grant program will be presented to the Council's
~_ Environmental Committee on March 25th for approval. The Met Council is moving more towards
partnering, so this approach seems likely to proceed. The grant could go towards distribution of
existing products or new messages. Also, recognizing the budgetary considerations of non-profit
groups, Partners on the new media committee who need to be paid for their time on this project can be
reimbursed from the grant. Met Council staff will be available as needed for assistance at no additional
cost.
Charlotte, Barb, and Shelley expressed interest in participating on the media committee. Susan
'` has student produced videos relating to water quality which could be incorporated. Charlotte
_ 'suggested that a baseline evaluation be performed now through fall with the actual campaign kick-off
in the spring of 1998. Barb agreed, we could make a more deliberate effort if the messages aired in
spring. The overall consensus of the Partners is that this is a positive opportunity and we should move
~- forward with it. Partners who would like to be on the media committee will assemble after the
Partner meeting on April 1 1 th. If you would like to participate and are unable to attend the meeting,
please contact Pauline at 229-2100.
6. Downlink
Barb will sponsor the downlink site for the "Community Water Education for Youth"
videoconference on May 1st. Steven Carlson from the Extension Service and Tracy will co-host the St.
Paul campus site. Charlotte will host a site at Farmington as well. Barb will mail each of the Partners a
copy of the registration form and Partners can pass it along to other interested parties.
7. Finances
Tracy proposed re-allocation of part of the 58,000 slated for supporting Partners to fund their
usage of the Shed. The amount could be reduced in order to fund Andrea's time for check-in and
check-out of the exhibit this year. Also, the 51,000 evaluation money could legitimately be utilized for
the check-i n /check-out.
