Jim reported that the College of Agriculture, <br />Natural Resources, and IVIES received funding for positions statewide at the experiment stations. <br />MES involved with MRCS on EQIP to keep educational programs in place for producers. MES <br />views the education position in the north as a high priority and they are happy to learn this <br />position will be filled. Jim will report next month on the U of M's land development discussions <br />for U of lei's Dakota County holdings. <br />Chair Roer congratulated Rod Sando on his chairmanship of EQB. <br />Rod Sando, commissioner, Department of Natural Resources, reported on the Mille Lacs treaty; <br />this does need to be appealed to the Supreme Court to brim this issue final closure, as the <br />decision was just announced, he will. report on details in September. Rod distributed DNR's <br />strategic plan for members information. DNR is involved with the implementation of CRP; <br />contact Wayne Edgerton with comments on this program. DNR has had a busy season with state <br />parks; tourism has been down in the north; state trails are very popular with rollerbladers; Waters <br />Division has been very busy with the flood disaster; Forestry is involved in the timber harvest; <br />law enforcement will be more mobile. Rod is happy to be here. <br />Consent Agenda <br />l~lahnomen County Comprehensive Local Water Plan -Tim Hvidsten reported that the <br />northern review committee met on August 26 to review the i/Iahnomen County Comprehensive <br />Local Water Plan and recommends approval of this plan. <br />South Washington Watershed District'~Vatershed Management Plan -Barb Cobb reported <br />that the metro committee recommends approval. <br />tipper Rum River tiVl~lO Watershed Management Plan -Barb Cobb reported that the metro <br />committee recommends approval of the plan. <br />iVloved by Tim Hvidsten, seconded by Ginny Imholte, to approve the Mahomen County <br />•60 Comprehensive Local Water Plan; the South Washington Watershed District Watershed <br />Management Plan; and the Upper Rum River `VtiIO Watershed Management Plan. iVlotion <br />passed on a voice vote. <br />Chair Roer called for a break in the meeting at 9:~0 a.m. T'ne meeting reconvened at 10:10 a.m. <br />Old Business <br />BWSR Draft Strategic Plan -Jim Birkholz distributed an addendum to the draft strategic plan, <br />a brief paragraph regarding technology, replacing page 12. Jim stated that comments on the draft <br />are welcomed. The draft strategic plan is scheduled for decision at the September BWSR <br />
