steering Committee app atments <br />Steering committee terms expire .n December. By the December meeting, a steering committee should be <br />established for next year. This is a great opportunity to get involved! <br />Recruitment of New Partners ~~ ~' -: ` ~ : ~` - - <br />Lyndon brought a handout of Partner expectations and reminded Partners that we can ail help get newcomers <br />involved in the Watershed Partners. He noted that the organization is agency heavy and weaker in watershed <br />districts and community based o~ganizations.= `' - _ - - <br />.. .... . - .t _ .. . <br />State Fair ~ ~. <br />19 organizations staffed the Watershed at the State Fair. Here is a synopsis of the feedback: <br />~ Louise She almost lost her voice from explaining the display to so many people. Great crowd draw. <br />~ Barb Regarding table two, kids liked the puzzled while adults liked the map. Barb said that she felt <br />bad leaving the exhibit alone at 6 pm while the building was open much Later. Next year, she suggested -` . <br />-. .. .. <br />that one person be scheduled in the evening ~_ ~ .~ ~ - . <br />• <br />Jim The location was great : ; , <br />~ Deb' Deb was not sure that being located_in the building thoroughfare was a good idea <br />~ Anne .The exhibit seemed fragmented with tables 1 & 2 and tables 3 &,4 back to back.; . _ ,- : ~,~~; . <br />~' Shelley The knobs on top of the; cloud units for table 1 were very tempting for people to fiddle with -- <br />Also, Shelley asked that we examine what we are giving out. Do the materials end up as waste or are •~. ~~~' <br />,..• <br />people only taking items that they intend to read? - > ~~'~ - ~ ~ • ~ •- <br />Suzanne 7,000 - 8,000 magnets were handed out: ~-The River Ranger booklets and buttoris.'also went _~ ;_ <br />over very well. The State Fair people informed us that we are not supposed to hand out stickers since <br />people tend to stick them all over everything including other exhibits `~ ;~ ` ~ ° ' <br />l: ~ S <br />- ~ Tracy: `One of the'days'of the`Fair; Tracy videotaped the exhibit from the volunteer area Hey. <br />observed that there was hot as much flow to the pledge cards as to other exhibit components: `Not many ;~ _ <br />people were flipping the book.. The exhibit,got approximately 50 visitors~every 5 minutes. People would ,: ;% <br />• ~ stop and listen if someone was~there.to explain `, <br />• Reproduction of the Watershed Exhibit ~ ~ ` - ~ .. ~ . , . -.. . ~ - <br />Several parties have expressed an interest in purchasing a reproduction of the Watershed: Hamline officially- <br />owns the exhibit and the Science Museum has the ability to reproduce it. Do the Partners think this is OK? <br />Marty and Shelley brought up concerns about overexposure. Due to time constraints, the discussion was <br />tabled until a future meeting. <br />Media and Outreach - <br />The media and outreach committee handed out a copy of the work plan to be submitted to the Met Council. <br />The name to be used in the radio spots will be the Watershed Partners. The action plan divides the project <br />into a number of specific work areas. PARTNERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ASSIST WITH ANY OF THE <br />TOPICS (SEE ENCLOSURE). The message will be developed this fall. <br />Strategic Planning <br />1. Partner Handbook Shelley, John, and Marie outlined the work which remains to be completed. Please <br />see enclosure for a summary. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR COMPLETION OF PARTNER LISTS: <br />PLEASE TURN IN THE ENCLOSED FORM. <br />2. Education This topic is fairly broad and a group comprised of Louise, Anne, John, Lisa, Lyndon and Jerry <br />will meet to work on it. . <br />3. Evaluation Please see enclosed outline.
