Resource managers gather at <br />annual conventions <br />MASWCD convention attracts 850 <br />Approximately 850 people attended the 61st annual con- <br />vention of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water. <br />Conservation Districts (MASWCD) December 7, 8 and 9 at <br />the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. Highlights of the <br />event include a keynote address by astronaut Mike Mullane <br />on teamwork and leadership; seminars on topics ranging <br />from land use to the differences between urban and rural <br />soil and water conservation districts; and a ceremony <br />honoring outstanding conservationists and outstanding <br />farmer/sportsmen from throughout the state. Other awards <br />given include Kim Krueger, Pope SWCD, as Outstanding <br />SWCD Employee; Itasca SWCD as SWCD of the Year;, <br />Eldon and Barbara Schmidt (Marietta), Lac qui Parle <br />SWCD, as Minnesota's Outstanding Farmer/Sportsman;, <br />Kip and Vicki Rasmussen, and Harlan and Pat Rasmussen <br />(Sanborn), Cottonwood SWCD, as Minnesota's Outstand- <br />ing Conservationist; and Jerry Bechtold, Stearns SWCD, as <br />Outstanding Supervisor. <br />Buffalo-Red recogl <br />Watershed district managers <br />from throughout Minnesota <br />met December 4, 5 and 6 at <br />the Radisson Arrotivwood in <br />Alexandria for the annual <br />Zized at MAWD meeting <br />meeting of the Minnesota <br />Association of Watershed <br />Districts (MAWD).
