BWSR. Meeting Minutes
June 25,1998
Page Sis
Uppgaard, seconded by Ginny Imholte, that BWSR will convene a drainage round table to
98-44 address the statewide drainage problems, efforts will be coordinated regionally and statewide.
Motion passed on a voice vote.
Mower SWCD - NRCS Wetlands Administration - Jim Birkholz introduced Jon Voz, resource
specialist with Mower SWCD. Jon explained the partnership proposal for SWCDs to provide
technical assistance in administering federal wetland compliance provisions. This will promote a
stronger and better coordinated wetland conservation delivery system to the landowners of
Minnesota and encompass both state and federal wetland regulations. Jon requested BWSR's
support for this proposal, as well as a request to make a phone call to Bill Hunt. Jim Birkholz
stated that one-stop-shopping has been an emphasis as a service to the community, this proposal
addresses that issue. Chair Roer stated that this proposal shows that the locaUfederal process can
be done together. Jon said that N~RCS formally endorses this proposal, and Chief Pearlie Reed
also supports this proposal. It was the consensus of the Board to support and endorse this
proposal.
Advisory Comments
-Lynda Peterson, MACDE, stated that she is the Area III M.ACDE Director. The MACDE held
their summer training session last week at CraQun's in Brainerd. Lynda stated that the training
sessions tivere very good and well attended.
Upcoming Meetings
The next BWSR meeting is July 22 in St. Paul. Chair Roer stated that the Water Planning
Conference is scheduled during this time in Crookston; if you know that you won't be at July
BWSR meeting, let Mary Jo know as soon as possible.
Chair Roer stated that Ron Harnack has been in contact with agencies from other states and has
invited them to attend our September BWSR meeting to discuss alternative organization for
water management. The length of the September meeting will be indicated at the August BWSR
meeting.
The October BWSR tour and meeting will be held October 28-29 in Lanesboro, southeastern
Minnesota.
Chair Roer reminded board members to get your expense claims in.
Chair Roer adjourned the meeting at 12:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen Roer, Chair
