To be included under General Permit 2000-6117, the project
must meet the following criteria:
a) For flood protection projects, the levels of any DNR public waters or public water wetland
basins must be above their Ordinary High Water Level (OHW).
b) The appropriation cannot cause adverse impacts to the receiving waters or cause
downstream flooding.
c) The permit is not valid if it adversely affects designated trout streams, calcareous fens, or
other significant environmental resources (Call the DNR if these resources are nearby).
d) Water intakes must be screened to keep fish from being drawn into the pumps, if they are
present.
e) Water appropriations cannot exceed 50 million gallons, for each approved project.
f) Water appropriations must be completed within one year from the start of pumping.
g) The Area Hydrologist for the county in which the project is located must be notified five
working days prior to the start of pumping. Attached is a form that should be used to satisfy
notification requirements.
h) Water volumes must be measured and reported upon completion of the project. A $50 water
use report processing fee is required for projects that exceed 15 million gallons. Attached is
a form that must be used to report water use.
In the event of the need for emergency pumping, the Applicant should contact the Area Hydrologist.
The Area Hydrologist may give verbal permission to commence pumping upon receipt of a properly
completed notification form.
