Education/Public Involvement
Reviewer Comments:
Reviewer Location(s) in Comment
Letter Comments
BWSR Items circled "8" The BWSR suggests that the WMO should work with non-
profit groups to develop an education strategy.
The BWSR also suggests that the WMO commit to an
ongoing CAC/TAC. They believe the CAC could help
"market" the GLWMO plan and provide "grassroots
solutions to community water management issues." BWSR
believes CAC membership should include representatives
from non-profit organizations.
The BWSR suggests the TAC be expanded to include
local, regional, state and federal technical staff. The role of
the TAC would be to keep the GLWMO up to date on new
rules or law changes.
The BWSR thinks the GLWMO plan should look into how
the GLWMO will interact with the member cities'
environmental committees/commissions.
Met Council Items circled "8" The Met Council encourages the WMO to consider
expanding the TAC to include regional and state technical
staff to advise the GLWMO Board of issues, agency
monitoring efforts, etc.
GLWMO Response to Comments:
Section 5.7 of the LMRWMO plan presents the WMO's goals and policies regarding education and public
involvement. The GLWMO will not be maintaining a CAC as an ongoing group and will not be
expanding its TAC beyond the current local staff membership. In lieu of maintaining a formal TAC, the
GLWMO will send agendas and minutes to the various agency representatives,• this activity will be added
to the policies in Section 5.7. The agency representatives are invited to attend the meetings and provide
the GLWMO Board with updates. Before submitting the draft plan for review, the executive summary was
submitted to various city commissions (e.g. parks, planning, envu~omnental) for their review. Also, the
GLWMO Board held public informational meetings to present information about the GLWMO and its
plan to the member cities and these city commissions.
The GLWMO Board is looking for efficient alld effective communication between the two member cities
and the GLWMO Board. The GLWMO's close relationship with the city governments currently provides
the GLWMO Board with public involvement through the city input given by the GLWMO technical staff.
The GLWMO wil[ investigate methods for the GLWMO to coordinate and communicate with the city
committee stl•uctures.
