BWSR Meeting Minutes <br />August 23, 2001 <br />Page Four <br />AGENCY REPORTS . <br />Sharon Clark, Department of Agriculture (MDA), reported that Commissioner Hugoson <br />will travel to Mexico to attend a trade meeting. Senator Wellstone's legislative liaison <br />met with MDA regarding Farm Bi11 issues. MDA will have a State Fair booth. MDA is <br />putting together technical legislative initiatives. Sharon encouraged agency attendance <br />at the GETS meetings, agency alliance on feedlots. MDA is working with Stearns <br />SWCD on the legislative tour in September. Sharon reported that Farmfest attendance <br />was down due to the heat. Sharon appreciated the opportunity to attend the Farm Bill <br />meeting hosted by BWSR. <br />Dan Wilson, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), reported that compliance rates <br />remain high, and meet code requirements on well construction. MDH is approaching <br />150,000 abandoned well sealings in Minnesota. <br />Wayne Edgerton, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), distributed a fact sheet <br />regarding the wildlife management area lands in northwestern Minnesota, and the <br />Consolidated Conservation (Con-Con) unresolved issue, that will be presented to the <br />legislature again this session. Additional information regarding this is on DNR' website. <br />Wayne reported that bear hunting season started yesterday. There is a potential <br />problem in northwestern Minnesota regarding the anthrax disease. Sharon Clark <br />reported that MDA is working with DNR on this disease, which has not showed up for <br />70 years. Wayne reported that Tom Kroll, DNR private forest management, has moved <br />to private industry; Larry Himunga is acting in his place. Wayne reported that the DNR <br />building has significant changes at the State Fair this year. Wayne presented afive- <br />minute informational CREP video, which will be distributed to all television stations <br />statewide. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />** .Carlton County Request for Comprehensive Local Water Plan Extension -Moved by <br />01-58 Ginny Imholte, seconded by Jerome Deal, to approve the Carlton County request for <br />Comprehensive Local Water Plan extension to 2002. Motion passed on a voice vote. <br />** Beltrami County Request for Comprehensive Local Water Pian Extension -Moved by <br />01-5s Ginny Imholte, seconded by Victor Ormsby, to approve the Beltrami County request for <br />Comprehensive Local Water Plan extension to 2002. Motion passed on a voice vote. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />WCA Principles and Goals -Dan Eklund presented the WCA rule revision principles <br />and goals. Discussion followed. Sandy Hooker asked to be included on the mailing list <br />** for the stakeholders meetings. Moved by Char Kahler, seconded by Darrell Bruggman, <br />01-60 to approve the WCA principles and goals as presented. Motion passed on a voice vote. <br /> <br />
