Review preliminary
hydrology plans for `unweave the weave' project prepared by TKDA. Share new
information and identify the most feasible solution for controlling the elevation on West
Vadnais.
Ramsey County staff confirmed that the connection from the wetland south of Vadnais
Blvd. to Twin Lake has been eliminated in the area of the mobile home park. West
Vadnais Lake and the wetland south of Vadnais Blvd. are land-locked.
Cliff Aichinger and Terry Noonan confirmed the existing Twin Lake outlet is well above
the current water level. The presence of a pipe inlet from the ditch on the north side of
I694 toward the ditch south of Country Drive between old Knox Lumber and Levitz
Furniture was confirmed in the field. Gravity flow from the wetland south of Vadnais
Blvd. to the pipe inlet is not feasible (see elevations below).
Rod Webster reported that MnDOT has an existing 20 foot easement in the general area
of the ditch between. old Knox Lumber and Levitz Furniture but work is being done to
make sure the easement is aligned with the actual ditch.
Matt Wassman reported that the hydrology model for the project area is nearing
completion. Rate control on the south side of I694 will be provided by two check dams
providing dry detention. Manufactured structures maybe needed for direct freeway
runoff to meet water quality requirement. A potential wet pond location has been
identified in the ditch south. of Country Drive between old Knox Lumber and Levitz
Furniture.
Low flows from West Vadnais may contribute to a capacity concern at the downstream
railroad culvert in Little Canada. The ability to shut off potential outflow from West
Vadnais subwatershed is needed if capacity is a problem. ACTION: Cliff and Lee
Elfering will evaluate the impact of low flows from West Vadnais on capacity at the
railroad culvert.
\projects\W. Vadnais
