® s <br />The Water Resources Science program <br />celebrates the beginning of the 2004-2005 <br />academic year by welcoming eighteen new <br />students to the program, thirteen M.S. and <br />five Ph.D. students. The new students join <br />the WRS program this fail from as close as <br />the Twin Cities campus and as far away as <br />National Taiwan University. <br />Among the incoming class are Y-Wen <br />Chiu and Jared Trost. Chiu received a B.S. <br />in Forestry from National Taiwan Univer- <br />sity inTaipei, Taiwan. Chiu came to the <br />WRS program for its wide selection of <br />courses and research opportunities. She <br />will be focusing on watershed management <br />with John Nieber (Biosystems and <br />Agricultural Engineering). Trost received a <br />B.A. in Biology fromAugsburg College in <br />Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is currently <br />involved in several long-term ecological <br />experiments at the Cedar Creek Natural <br />History Area, including one that examines <br />ecosystem function within oak savanna/ <br />woodland plots with varying burn frequen- <br />cies. Trost is advised by Ray Newman <br />(Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation <br />Biology). <br />Three new faces around the WRC <br />office are incoming WRS graduate <br />students Paul Hartzheim, Eric Otto, and <br />Erica Schram. Hartzheim received a B.S. in <br />Environmental Science from the University <br />of Minnesota.
