<br />e the concept of "sustainability" is easily understood and appears to be accepted, the practical and
<br />effective means by which it can be achieved do not appear to be understood, and are certainly not
<br />practiced in society today.
<br />Perhaps that is because society does not see sustainability as important to be defined as the next "age', or as
<br />Richard Neville puts it in Footprints of the Future, "The Sustainability Revolution' will follow the Agricultural,
<br />Industrial, and Knowledge Revolutions in history.
<br />Neville lists the things that are "disappearing ' at the end of the current age: childhood, time, certainty, v
<br />;?~ ~~y
<br />distance, privacy, secrets, jobs for life, loyalty to institutions, and fresh water. ~ ~~.
<br />He tells us that sustainability will require "living machines", to replace machines of :the 20th century #~f`~ e c~ , ~'

<br />developed to conquer nature. Living machines. will partner with nature, perhaps even become part of n~tt~re,~~~~ ~ `
