Maloney
Grass Lake WMO
4600 North Victoria Street
Shoreview, MN 55126
Re: Ramsey County Flood Map Scoping Meeting
Dear Mr. Maloney:
The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has
initiated aMulti-Hazard Flood Map Modernization effort, which will result in the improved
accuracy and expanded utility of the nation's current flood map resources. Through FEMA's
multi-year map modernization project, all of the nation's flood maps will be converted to a
digital format, incorporating the best available flood risk data for use with the National Flood
Insurance Program. The digital data sets produced during this project will be distributed to your
community, and may be overlaid into your local Geographic Information System. This will
expand your community's ability to manage your flood programs, and ultimately increase your
capability for multi-hazard information management.
As a part of this ongoing effort, Ramsey County (the County) has been selected to receive
updated countywide Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM). A meeting has been
scheduled to inform communities within the County of FEMA's overall mapping objectives and
to provide an opportunity for your direct participation in the development and maintenance of the
local DFIRM product. The meeting has been set in coordination with Ramsey County.
RamGe:r ~ngrvrty ~ilr,~nrl Mari .C~nni~r~ I~iPQ#wna
When: Thursday August 11
Time: 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Where: Ramsey County Public Works Building, Marsden Room,
1425 Paul Kirkwood Drive, Arden Hills, MN 55112
This meeting will provide a forum to assess the flood mapping needs of your community, and to
discuss and obtain any local data that will assist us in producing the most accurate DFIRMs
possible. We have enclosed a Scoping Meeting Fact Sheet that further identifies the goals of the
meeting and what you can do to maximize your participation, as well as the entire mapping
process.
FvF~~w.f~~.gov
