DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESQURCES <br />Metro Region General Permit <br />for Temporary Basin Dewatering and Flood Control <br />Attached is Amended General Permit 2000-6117, which authorizes temporary water appropriations for <br />surface water appropriations to facilitate flood protection and stormwater basin maintenance in the seven-county <br />Metropolitan Area. To be included under General Permit 2000-6117, the project must meet the following <br />criteria: <br />1) For flood protection projects, the levels of any DNR public waters or public water wetland basins must <br />be above their Ordinary High Water Level (OHW). <br />2) The appropriation cannot cause adverse impacts to the receiving waters or cause downstream flooding. <br />3) The permit is not valid if it adversely affects designated trout streams, calcareous fens, or other <br />significant environmental. resources (Call the DNR if these resources are nearby). <br />4) Water intakes must be screened to keep fish from being drawn into the pumps, if they are present. <br />5) Water appropriations cannot exceed 50 million gallons, for each approved project. <br />6) Water appropriations must be completed within one year from the start of pumping. <br />7) The Area Hydrologist for the county in which the project is located must be notified. five working days <br />prior to the start of pumping. Attached is a form that should be used to satisry notification requirements. <br />8) Water volumes must be measured and reported upon completion of the project, and appropriate water <br />use fees (if required) must be paid. Attached is a form that must be used to report water use on a yearly <br />basis. <br />In the event of the need for emergency pumping, the Applicant should contact the Area Hydrologist. The Area <br />Hydrologist may give verbal permission to commence pumping upon receipt of a properly completed <br />Notification form. The applicant should also notify the City, Watershed District, and Soil and Water <br />Conservation District before commencing such emergency pumping. <br />Please be sure to read all provisions and limitations that are part of General Permit 2000-6117.
