A ditch is proposed to be constructed to connect the south edge of West Vadnais Lake
with a proposed outlet structure approximately 150 feet to the south of the lake. The ditch
would be constructed with a bottom elevation of 881.9 (1988 datum), which is 0.8 feet
below the OHW of West Vadnais Lake. The width of the ditch at its bottom would be
four feet and it would be constructed with 1:5 side slopes. The entire ditch would become
an extension of-West Vadnais Lake and would become DNR protected water. The 1400
square feet of ditch excavation that would be on existing upland is proposed to
compensate for the 620 square feet of ditch excavation in fringe wetland under WCA, in
slight excess of the 2:1 requirement. No replacement is required by the DNR for the
approximately 100 square feet of excavation for the ditch within the OHW of West
Vadnais Lake.
Adequate hydrology to maintain this ditch section as wetland would be provided by its
connection with West Vadnais Lake and by the function of the ditch as an outflow
channel for the lake. The ditch bottom will be amended with hydric soils from the
excavation where necessary. The bottom and side slopes of the ditch would be seeded
with BWSR Mix No. 2, Wet Prairie Mix.
