Here are some specific examples.
Finance -departmental staff rely heavily on conferences to receive updates on new mandated financial
reporting requirements, banking and investment requirements, risk management issues, and budgeting and
financial planning technique. Recent conference attendance resulted in:
• Implemented new financial reporting requirements related to financial statement presentation, calculation
of unfunded liabilities, and reporting employee healthcare implicit subsidy costs.
• Development of citywide performance measures
• Understanding the merits of multi-year budgeting and implementation techniques
Fire -
•:• Creation of a Line of Duty Death policy manual
• Greater understanding of state-wide mutual aid agreements and procedures
• Preparation and planning for new federal highway safety program
• Case study reviews to allow for better planning and preparation for similar events expected locally
Community Development -
• Site plan and development reviews used to refine the Staff Development Review Committee process
•:• Attended sessions on form-based codes which help us craft our RFP for zoning code consultants
• Attended sessions on example sign ordinances, land use applications, etc.
Parks & Recreation -
• Allowed research opportunities into the "Best Value Procurement" Legislation that eventually
led to the procurement method for the Geothermal System at the Skating Center and has since
been accepted city wide.
