Project Update: The contractor completed all of the watermain work last December. Clean up and restoration remains for this spring. We have been fortunate to have an early spring this year. However, temperatures are still dropping below freezing at night. Final restoration of disturbed areas will occur once the overnight temperatures are warmer and the ground has completely thawed. Sod is anticipated to be placed in late April or early May. The contractor is required by contract to complete restoration by June 1, 2010. Restoration includes the following: Any excess mounds of dirt or settled areas will be re-compacted and re-graded prior to placement of sod. Fencing: If a section of your fence was removed for access purposes, it will be permanently reinstalled this spring. The shut-off valves, or curb boxes, that were located in your backyards on your old service line, were cut off at ground level when the old service was disconnected, and new curb boxes have been installed in the boulevard behind the curb. These will be lowered to be flush with the ground. The green material that has been sprayed on mounds of dirt and on exposed soils in the boulevards throughout the neighborhood is called hydro-seed, and is a slurry mixture of seed (turf grass), fertilizer, and a green dye. This was applied as an erosion control measure. These areas will be re-graded and restored. Other landscaping: We will work with each property owner to restore any other landscaping features that may have been disturbed during construction. The likelihood of water main breaks will be reduced now that the new water main pipe is in place, and City crews will be able to access the water main for future maintenance without disturbing your backyards.
