We're replacing a handful of phones that are 7 years old and are no longer functioning properly. We're also renewing some software licenses for our phone system. The remaining IT-related items are purchases related to the replacement of 20 network servers (we currently have over 100 that we manage for Roseville and our IT partnership cities). We're moving to a `virtual' server system that effectively uses a few large servers to replace many smaller ones. The larger servers can be segmented into smaller `virtual' servers for various applications. We save money by purchasing less equipment, consuming less energy, and requiring less cooling (A/C) capacity. The 4 virtual servers we're purchasing will replace 20 smaller ones. These virtual servers also provide for more effective data redundancy and easier disaster recovery. All of the purchases were budgeted for in the 2010 Budget.
