Sod work is only
guaranteed for 30 days. After 30 days the care and
maintenance of all sod is no longer the
responsibility of the contractor or the City.
200 Contract B
Street Maintenance
Past experience has shown that new sod requires
special care, such as some fertilizing and regular
watering until it can become fully established
(approximately three to four seasons). We
encourage you to give the sod the care it needs.
Suggestions for Maintenance
• WATERING~ufficient and timely watering is
critical to a new lawn until its root structure
becomes fully established so it can withstand
drought. This usually takes one to three years.
Weather conditions will dictate the amount and
frequency of watering. Those areas in full sun
the majority of the day require more water than
shaded areas. Be certain that your new lawn
has enough moisture to survive hot, dry, or
windy periods. In many instances, a new lawn
requires more watering than the rest of your
yard for up to three years.
MOWING-Mow your lawn often, generally
removing no more than 113 of the grass height
with each mowing. Keep your mower blade
sharp. Example: Cut grass when it is 3" high
and set your mower cutting height to 2".
Allowing a new lawn to grow to 6" or more and
then cutting it short can injure a new lawn and
even cause it to die. This is especially harmful
when watering is insufficient.
• FERTILIZER- Fertilize the new lawn
periodically to ensure that it will grow well.
Again, a new lawn takes much more attention
than established lawns and may take up to
three years of increased maintenance before it
becomes fully established.
Questions?
If you have concerns about an issue that occurred
during the project that was not resolved, please
contact Darren.
This will likely be the last newsletter we send out for
this project, we will continue to update the project
webpage as needed.
