Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />DRAFT Minutes -August 18, 2010 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />90 She said the question would be sent to the seven public and private schools within the Roseville <br />91 Area School District boundaries. <br />92 <br />93 4c. MIC's Tenth Annual World Quest <br />94 <br />95 Commissioner McKenzie described the MIC's World Quest International Trivia Competition. <br />96 She said this is a way to get youth involved and suggested the commission sponsor a student <br />97 group in 2011. <br />98 <br />99 Commissioners asked several questions ways to get students involved, do we sponsor a team <br />100 from one school or invite students from various schools to compete. Commissioners discussed <br />101 the need for the schools and/or teachers' commitment. They discussed the cost -approximately <br />102 13% of the HRCs budget. Commissioners asked if this was the best use of $250, whether there <br />103 are other, more local activities that the commission could fund. Others asked if this kind of <br />104 competition was directly connected with the HRC's mission. <br />105 <br />106 Commissioners discussed other ways to involve students and suggested speaking with Jan <br />107 Vanderwall. He is the RAS's contact person for the Human Rights Commission. Commissioner <br />108 McKenzie agreed to talk with Mr. Vanderwall about youth groups and identifying issues in <br />109 which students are interested. She will also talk with him about getting a youth member on the <br />110 commission. <br />111 <br />112 4d. Minnesota Local Human Rights Project Grant Form <br />113 <br />114 The proposal is on hold until December, and it will be on the agenda then. <br />115 <br />116 5. Future Agenda Items <br />121 <br />122 Commissioners agreed that they wanted to talk about the World Quest Trivia contest and ways to <br />123 get students involved in the HRC. Commissioner McKenzie asked that the HRC consider <br />124 repeating the Department of Human Rights Regional meeting this spring, adding accreditation as <br />125 away to encourage greater participation. Commissioners suggested involving the surrounding <br />126 communities' HRCs to help sponsor the event. <br />127 <br />128 Commissioners suggested developing a youth engagement plan that looks at the HRC's budget. <br />129 <br />130 7.
