1
Request for Council Action
Date: 01/08/01
Item Number: C-7
Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section
Richard B. Gasaway
/
Consent
Item Description: Renewal of Fire Department Dispatching Agreement with the City of St. Paul
Backqround: Since 1995, the Roseville Fire Department has contracted dispatching services
through the City of St. Paul Emergency Communications Center. Satisfactory service is
provided under this arrangement. Contracting for fire dispatching services with another
public partner is very economical and provides a professional value-added service.
Policy Objective: This is a renewal of an existing contract. The cost of services is $25,000 for
the first 1,000 emergency calls dispatched, then $25 per call for each emergency call
exceeding 1,000. As a point of reference for Council, the fire department responded to 610
calls for the year 2000.
Financial: The cost of dispatching services is included in the annual operating budget for the
fire department. The new contract represents no increase in the cost of service.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommendation is to approve the renewal of the dispatching
contract with the City of St. Paul.
Council Action Requested: Motion to authorize the Mayor and Acting City Manager to sign the
Fire Dispatching Agreement renewal with the City of St. Paul, upon final review by the City
Attorney.
