Approval Item �� Request for Council Action Manager Approval ��" Designate 2001 Legal Newspaper Date: January 8, 2001 Item Number: E— 2 Agenda Section Organizational Business Back r� ound Minnesota State Statutes require the City Council to annually designate a legal newspaper for publication of ordinance and other municipal notices. The 1997 legislature approved action that permits municipalities to designate a legal newspaper based on the cost of publishing public notices if at least 25 % of the newspaper circulation has been within the Roseville City limits. The Focus and Review had a circulation of at least 25 % in 2000 and received letters requesting the following information: *Cost of one time publication of four samples of past notices; *Number of newspapers distributed in Roseville; *Percentage of circulation in 2000 with in Roseville City limits; *Number of times distributed per week; and, *Percentage of space devoted to local interest stories. The City required a response to the requested information by December 21, 2000. The City received a response from the Review but did not receive one from the Focus. In communication with the Focus staff, they indicated that they missed the deadline. Staff Recommendation As the Review provided the sole response, it is recommended that the City Council designate the Review as the legal newspaper for the City in 2001. Council Action Rec�uested Motion designating the Review Newspaper as the legal newspaper for the City of Roseville for 2001.
