Paschke: We have tilled out the Variance Application Form and attached the other required documents for the proposed garage addition project at our property at 699 Heinel Circle. Background/Narrative: We purchased our house in the summer of 1999. The house was built in 1957 for a lady who had Polio. Therefore, it was designed without any grade transition from the outside to the inside. My wife, Bev, has Multiple Sclerosis, so we were excited about the house because it provides a reasonable level of handicapped accessibility. However, it is e�tremely difficult for Bev to get in and out of her car because the garage is very narrow (at 19 feet). The potential that she will eventually need to use a wheelchair to get around is very rea1. In this event, it will be impossible for her to gain access to her car in the garage. Primary Reason for the Request for Variance The primary reason for our request for a variance from the City Code is that we need to improve handicapped accessibility to the garage by increasing the size of the garage. Specifically, we are requesting permission to build five feet (5'- 0") from the northeast properiy line and seven feet (7'- 0") from the front properiy line. It is noted that our house is located fifteen feet (15'- 0") of the front properiy line. It is further noted that our neighbor's house and garage are located closer than five feet (5'- 0") from our northeast property line and that our neighbor's garage is located seven feet (7'- 0") from the front property line. Therefore, there is precedence for our request.
