REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: Ol/22/Ol <br />Item No.: c- 3 <br />Department ApprovaL Manager Reviewed Agenda Section <br />��� `,J� Consent <br />Lt <br />Description: Communication with Roseville Legislative Delegation <br />Background <br />The League of Minnesota Cities has approved a policy (SD-27) that opposes any proposal which <br />increases youth access to alcohol and tobacco products. That policy was adopted by reference by the <br />City Council at its January 8, 2001 meeting. <br />The Mayor has asked that a letter be prepared and sent, with the Council's knowledge and approval, <br />to our legislative delegation regarding a proposal in the 200 1 legislature extending the sale Of WiI12 to <br />grocery stores in the seven county metro area. <br />A letter has been drafted and is attached. <br />Policy Implications <br />The request is within the current adopted policies of the City Council. <br />Financial Implications <br />There are significant fiscal implications for law enforcement, should the number of alcohol outlets be <br />expanded. <br />Staff Recommendations <br />Staff is recommending that the City Council approve the communication with the Roseville legislative <br />delegation stating the Council's opposition to expanding the potential access <br />Council Action <br />Motion to authorize a communication to the Roseville Legislative Delegation conveying the <br />Council's policy position that limiting potential alcohol access to youth be supported and that <br />expansion of alcohol outlets be opposed. <br />
