DRAFT
January 17, 2001
Senator John Marry
Mary Jo McGuire
Mindy Greiling
As you are aware there is a strong push at the current legislative session, to extend the sale of wine within
the metro area to grocery stores.
The Roseville City Council has long been active (Mayor's Commission On Drugs and Alcohol Abuse) in
combating drug, tobacco and alcohol abuse as well as concern about the accessibility of such products by
our underage population. In accordance with those concerns, the City Council adopted the League of
Minnesota Cities Policy No. SD-27, a copy which is attached, that essentially opposes any legislation,
which could increase the risk of youth access to alcohol.
On the basis of the best information available at this time, the Roseville City Council, on behalf of its
citizens, ask that you be supporkive of the City's position and not expand potential youth access to alcohol
products. Please oppose any effort to extend the sale of such products to any outlets other than those that
are licensed under current state and local statutes.
Sincerely
John Kysylyczyn
Mayor
