with the Roseville Parcel Base Map (Proposed to be completed by GIS
Technicians at the Roseville City Staff).
❑ Task 3— Aerial Photo Interpretation
July — August, 200 1
During this portion of the project, we will interpret color infrared aerial
photos to delineate natural communities and all non-manicured areas of
the Acorn, Reservoir, Central, Lngton Lake, and Villa Parks. Mylar
overlays created during photo interpretation will then be used during
the detailed field inventory portion of the project. As field work and data
entry is completed, these mylar overlays will be transferred to the
Roseville City Staff's GIS technicians for digitizing, or used by Bonestroo
staff to digitize natural communities.
G Task 4- Field Inventory
July — October 200 1
During the field inventory portion of the project, we will use
methodologies employed by the DNR Natural Heritage Program County
Biological Survey to collect detailed species lists and determine natural
community type and quality.
Upland and Wetland Inventory
Within upland and wetland natural communities, dominant tree, shrub,
grasses, and forbs composition will be documented along with a relative
abundance for each species. Particular emphasis will be placed on
identifying plant species that indicate the natural community's quality.
Examples of indicator species would include invasivelexotic species,
those considered "conservative" for the community type, or rare and
endangered species found only on good quality sites. In those areas
with mature tree cover, the age of at least one representative tree will be
determined to aid in understanding past land use and relative age and
condition of the canopy members.
In addition to conducting detailed plant community inventories in
wetlands and classifying and ranking them using Natural Heritage
Program methods, each basin will be evaluated using the BWSR
"Minnesota Rapid Assessment Method"" /MnRfiM/ Version 2.0. MnRAM is
the best available method for assessing impacts to wetland basins and
provides a foundation on which sound management strategies can be
based for maintaining or improving wetland quality and function.
In large wetlands where there is a significant change in the
characteristics and quality from the National Wetlands Inventory mapped
type, depending on location, the wetland may be broken into
management units.
Pond Assessment
The field assessment of the ponds will potentially include collecting
information relating to flooding problems; locations of dumping;
condition of inlets and outlets; secchi disk reading and/or other water
quality information; vegetative and habitat condition; current aesthetics;
depth; and photos. The MNRAM floral diversity section will be used to
/ City of Rosei/le Natura/ Resource Management 4
T'I Bonestoo, Rosene, Anderlik andAssociates, /nc.
