Lease for Tower Space Background Date: 6/26/O1 Item No.: C-15 Agenda Section Consent The City has been working with Qwest for the past number of years to encourage their placement of towers on city-owned property. It has been the City's perspective that if we can locate Qwest towers on public property, as we have done with most of the other wireless companies, it will, in the long run, be easier for the community to manage as well as to assist the City in obtaining a limited amount of nontax revenue. The proposed tower is a 60 foot communicator tower, similar to the existing pole located at the Country Side restaurant on Snelling Avenue. A key provision in the proposed lease requires Qwest to approach the City first for any future sites needed in Roseville. Financial Implications The City will be gaining an additional $600 per month (plus inflation adjustments) from its wireless sites, plus, a tower which will fit into the surrounding neighborhood much better. This is expected to impact the City's Information Technology budget in a positive manner as well as provide the area citizens and businesses more choices for telephone service. Staff Recommendations Staffis recommending that the lease with Qwest for securing antenna space on the City's property at 2335 Dale Street be approved. Council Action Motion to authorized the Mayor and Acting City Manager to sign the attached antenna lease between the City and Qwest Wireless L.L.C. subject to final review by the City Attorney and the approval of the conditional use permit.
