REVI SED: <br />► P/ease Note Correction in Last Two Parapraphs �! <br />LIVABLE COMMUNITIES <br />DEMONSTRATION ACCOUNT (LCDA) <br />of the LIVABLE COMMUNITIES FUND <br />Application Information For Opportunity Grants <br />Funding Available For 2001: $500,000 <br />Note: This information and criteria cover grants awarded through LCDA <br />formerly called "planning" or "predevelopment" grants. <br />Purpose: Opportunity grants are available to fund local initiatives to develop project- <br />specific and site-specific plans according to smart growth principles. <br />The Metropolitan Council wishes to be a funding partner in proposals that: <br />o Plan to demonstrate compact and connected land use patterns that are linked to transit <br />where available, or build capacity for transit service, and support walkable <br />neighborhoods. <br />. Propose a mix of uses, including a mix of housing types and costs, and an economic <br />mix near commercial, civic or other uses that facilitate daily needs and community <br />activities. <br />. Show potential for evolving to projects eligible to receive future LCDA funding in the <br />development category. <br />Use of Funds: Opportunity grants can be used to help pay for costs of shaping <br />development plans and project implementation tools. <br />Applications Are Due: August 1, 2001 <br />Date of Awards: Early October 2001 <br />Amount of Awards: Awards will be generally limited to a maximum of $75,000. Some <br />awards may be higher if the project area or scope warrants. Applicants may apply for more <br />than $75,000, but must explain circumstances that may warrant a higher grant award. <br />Local Match: Awards must be matched by a 1:1 local dollar contribution, which can <br />include in-kind and other contributions. The local dollar contribution can include local costs <br />directly related to the candidate proposal that have been expended within 12 months prior <br />to the date of the grant award. <br />Selection Process: A staff team comprised of Environment, Transportation and <br />Community Development staff members will evaluate proposals against the selection <br />criteria and make recommendations to the Council for funding, through its Livable <br />Communities Committee. The Metropolitan Council reserves the riqht to award less than <br />the available fundina for this qrant cvcle. <br />
