REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 9/24/01 <br />ITEM N0: C-L <br />Department Approval: ManagerReviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />Item Description: Authorization for Rose Parade <br />BACKGROUND <br />During the past 11 years, the Rose Parade has been an important part of the annual <br />Rosefest celebration sponsored by the City of Roseville Parks and Recreation Department. <br />The Rose Parade is organized by the Parade Committee under the supervision of the <br />Parks and Recreation Dept. The Chair of the 2002 Rose Parade Committee is Leslie Berry. <br />The parade is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2002 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The parade <br />route will begin at the Roseville Area High School and proceed east on Cty. Rd B-2, then <br />north on Lexington and then west on Cty. Rd. C to the John Rose Minnesota OVAL. The <br />pre-staging area is in the high school complex area. The neighborhoods along the route <br />will be posted ahead of time indicating the traffic delays. Letters will also again be sent <br />making residents of the upcoming event. The Roseville Police will again also insure <br />assistance if residents need to exit or gain access to their residence during the parade. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The City Council has annually approved the staging of the Rose Parade. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATION <br />The Rose Parade is paid for from fees, sponsorships and donations. Staff time is used to <br />coordinate the planning and for setup and cleanup of the parade route. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of the 20� Rose Parade scheduled for Monday June 24, <br />2002. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion authorizing the 2002 Rose Parade. <br />
