This new law will beneft homeowners by providing a more <br />timely method to update the standards. <br />2. In 1999, 21.4 million Americans (about 7.6 percent of the U.S. <br />population) lived full-time in 8.9 million manufactured homes. <br />3, In 2000, the industry shipped 250,550 homes from 280 manufacturing <br />facilities. <br />4. Multi-section shipments in 2000 outpaCed single-section shipments, <br />commanding 70.1 percent of total shipments. In 1999, multi-section <br />shipments accounted for 64.7 percent of the total. <br />5. 88 percent of manufactured home owners report satisfaction with the <br />manufactured housing lifestyle. <br />6. All manufactured homes are built to the federal AUD Code, with each <br />home going through a rigorous inspection process before being <br />certified and sold. 2000 marked the 24'h anniversary of the HUD <br />Code. <br />7. A majority of manufactured homes are never moved after they have <br />been installed. <br />8. Manufactured housing retail sales were estimated at $16.3 billion in <br />1998. <br />9. In 2000, one out of six new single-family housing starts were <br />manufactured homes. <br />10. According to the Census Bureau, 1999 figures show that 68 percent of <br />new manufactured homes were located on private property, and 32 <br />percent of new manufactured homes were located in communities. <br />11. The average sales price of a manufactured home was $43,600 in 1999. <br />Single-section homes average $31,800, while multi-section homes <br />average $50,200. <br />12. In 1999, the estimated economic impact from manufactured housing <br />was $34.5 billion.
