When students left at the end of their school day, they would speed down the streets
and take the corner of Sextant and Albert too fast. Just nvo weeks ago I saw a student
parked on Albert drive ontn Sextant and then quickly speed backards 40 feet,
without looking behind her, before speeding back onto Albert towards Brooks. If
anyone had been in her path, there is no way the driver could have stoppEd in time.
We do not have sidewalks in our neighborhood and motorists need to exercise
additional caution to watch for elderly residents on their daily walks, kids riding their
bikes, or parents with strollers.
• The corner of Albert and Sextant is a school bus stop. The bus comes around 7:45
a.m., the same time high school students would start to arrive. The student lives on
Hamline and walks down Sextant to get to the stop. Prohibiting the parking on
Sextant during the school day has made this a safer walk and wait for the student.
While no one wants unnecessary additional signage in a residential area, I think the signs
are absolutely essential to ensuring safer traffic behavior in our neighborhood. We have
a sign in our front yard and i find it a small price to pay for the safety of my children and
neighbors. The driveways in our neighborhood are large enough to accommodate any
parking needs for residents that might take place during the prohibited on-street parking
time period.
I greatly appreciate your consideration of my concerns. I am hoping to attend the
council meeting on Monday, but with the unpredictability of my schedule I wanted to
ensure, at a minimum, that my comments were available for the record. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jen Peterson
1396 Sextant Avenue
(651) 297-1295 (w)
cc: Neal Beets — ,.e..
Duane Schwartz — a ,w.a-Q
